comes from cacao beans, and these are pure, organic, unadulterated

Dr. Drewnowski from the University of Michigan found that chocolate
triggers the production of natural opioids that produce a feeling of

ORGANIC VEGAN
CHOCOLATE:
Our completely organic, vegan chocolate is made with only cacao
beans (dark chocolate), dehydrated cane juice, soy lecithin, and
all-natural Stevia. Not only is this chocolate healthy and vegan, it's the best
tasting chocolate we have ever eaten. It's formed just like
chocolate chips, so they can be used in recipes, blended with kava
drinks, or eaten right out of the bag. So delicious, we have them
under lock and key here at the shop! There can be no doubt
that chocolate does indeed have healing properties. Studies
published in the medical journal The Lancet found that chocolate
contains antioxidants such as polyphenols, which have been shown to
protect against heart disease, and that it contains four times the
amount of catechins (a polyphenol) as tea. Chocolate also contains
caffeine, theobromine, phenylethylamine, magnesium and anandamides
(fatty-acid type substances). |

ORGANIC RAW
CHOCOLATE:
Our completely organic, vegan chocolate is made with only cacao
beans (dark chocolate), dehydrated cane juice, soy lecithin, and
all-natural Stevia. This natural product is a raw foodist's dream;
all chocolate comes from cacao beans, and these are pure, organic,
unadulterated cacao beans...which taste just like dark chocolate
because that's exactly what they are! This is the original food of
the gods and the least thought of Superfood. Our raw chocolate is
one of the richest sources of antioxidants, including potassium and
magnesium, not to mention the endorphins that get released into the
body when chocolate is consumed. These are great right out of the
bag, and even better when made into a tea or used in your favorite
recipes. |

ORIGINS
OF CHOCOLATE:
During his conquest of Mexico, Cortez found the Aztec Indians using
cocoa beans in the preparation of the royal drink of the realm, "chocolatl",
meaning warm liquid. In 1519, Emperor Montezuma, who reportedly
drank 50 or more portions daily, served "chocolatl" to his Spanish
guests in great golden goblets, treating it like a food for the
gods.
For all its regal importance, however, Montezuma's "chocolatl" was
very bitter, and the Spaniards did not find it to their taste. To
make the concoction more agreeable to Europeans, Cortez and his
countrymen conceived of the idea of sweetening it with cane sugar.
While they took "chocolatl" back to Spain, the idea found favor and
the drink underwent several more changes with newly discovered
spices, such as cinnamon and vanilla. Ultimately, someone decided
the drink would taste better if served hot.
The new drink won friends, especially among the Spanish aristocracy.
Spain wisely proceeded to plant cocoa in its overseas colonies,
which gave birth to a very profitable business. Remarkably enough,
the Spanish succeeded in keeping the art of the cocoa industry a
secret from the rest of Europe for nearly a hundred years. |
