We get so many questions
about whether or not Kava can help anxiety or stress, as
well as questions about whether it can cause it! - How many natural herbal products can boast
about having both ends of this spectrum hold true?
We think this is a testament to the wonders of this
natural herbal supplement and remedy.
Although by law, we cannot say anything about whether or
not kava can be useful for treating anxiety, we can say
that we have used it in our family of organic farmers
for as long as we can trace our family back for both
anxiety as well as stress reduction.
Although we live relatively stress-free lives here on
this beautiful island of Hawaii anyway, the "kava
anxiety" that a few feel kava may be
responsible for is caused
by the people who are partaking in this plant, and not
the plant itself!
What I mean is this: The taste of kava
can be something that most have to acquire a taste for.
It can be slightly bitter (although our Kava has been
voted #1 in every taste test we've had), especially when not prepared properly.
Also, drinking a cup of this strange and unfamiliar root
can be a bit daunting for some. The anxiety is not
caused by the kava, but most-often comes from the person
partaking in the drink because they are unsure of what it will taste
like, because they may be nervous about what and how it might make them
feel, especially when words like "psychoactive" and
"euphoria" are used.
This is perfectly natural, and expected
for anything that is unfamiliar to us. But, if
you're brave enough to try, the reward is well worth the
effort! - Many other completely legal and acceptable
drinks are psychoactive and may induce feelings of
euphoria such as coffee and alcohol, and kava has proven
to be far safer than either.
On the flipside of the question as to
whether kava can help reduce anxiety and stress, we know of many people who take this plant on a
regular basis to help them sleep at night and we have
even read reports from Europe about how kava is actually
prescribed to young ones instead of the pharmaceutical
known as Prozac! This is quite a testimonial for our
humble little plant that has been used for thousands of
years!
I know that from many generations of personal
experience, that there have been sleepless nights
in our household. But no one would ever think to reach for a glass
of milk or valerian root; we automatically reach for
some fresh roots from the fridge (if we happen to have
some available). Nothing compares, in my humble opinion,
to staring out at the moonlight across our fields of
kava, enjoying a relaxing cup of kava to help provide me
with a restful night's sleep, free from tossing and
turning, any hints of anxiety, or any other stressors that leave
me wide awake and wishing for sleep.
We have seen, on occasion, overly large amounts of kava
act in reverse, making a person a little "wired", but
this has only happened when someone has taken doses far
far above what the FDA recommends. And, some
people actually liked this overly euphoric and wired
feeling that they get.
So, be smart, relax, and let your kava anxiety simply
fall to the wayside, as you open yourself up to a new
experience that may never have happened otherwise. -
