Can You Smoke Kava Leaves?

Can You Smoke Kava Leaves?Mr. Owoo asked: Where may I buy Kava crushed leaves to smoke? – I heard that you can feel similar effects from that as drinking Kava Kava.

Makaira says: We do not sell the leaves because there is some research indicating that they may be poisonous to humans. Our leaves are simply ground up, and returned to the soil to help give our Kava Kava plants the required nutrients they need to continue to flourish year after year. To each their own, but what is the need or desire to smoke any part of the Kava plant when there are so many forms of Kava available, such as liquigels, powders, pastes, and pure powdered root? Kavalactones are destroyed when heated beyond 140 degrees Fahrenheit. I personally do not know anyone who has smoked Kava, and when asking friends and family if they’ve ever heard of such a practice, none actually ever have. Hope this helps!

Aloha no,

Makaira

  1. Matt,

I’m sorry if I wasn’t clear in my answer to the first person who asked the same question, but I don’t know anyone who has actually thought to smoke Kava Kava. As I think most of us know, smoking of any kind is harmful to one’s health. But, as is often our mantra for customers who ask health-related questions: We’re not doctors and by law, we cannot dispense any advice related to health issues either, I’m sorry. I’m sure it’s possible to smoke just about any kind of plant material, but the question to me is still why one would want to smoke Kava in the first place. Truly; to each their own, but that’s the best answer I have for you at the moment! Hope that helps. Aloha no, Makaira

  2. I have a series of questions. 1) Is it possible to smoke Kava? 2) Is there any harm from smoking Kava, or is it safe to smoke?
