How Much Extract to Use for Full Effects?

Kava The HealerMichael Claisse asked: How much kava extract should I use in one coffee cup to feel the full effects and how many cups should I drink? The bottle says that there are 25 active mg of kavalactones in one serving, and says one serving is 10-20 drops.

Makaira says: One serving, in accordance with FDA guidelines, is 1 dropperful, into one glass of whatever you are drinking. Sorry to sound like a broken record, but we can’t offer anything past that, and can only by law, offer what we have been instructed by the FDA to offer. So, as we tell everyone who asks: It’s open to personal experimentation. Find what works best for you, and always remember to use any herbal product responsibly.

Personally, we at the farm don’t feel any effects whatsoever from a single dropperful. We would never advise anyone to take more than the recommended dosage, but with our long history and higher tolerance for Kava, we put half of the 1oz bottle in each of our drinks. But that is far above the FDA recommended amount, so we would discourage such actions. 😉

Aloha no,

Makaira

  3. Dear Pat,

Yes, precisely. You should not experience any dangerous or negative effects if you take kava in moderation.

  4. i took 4 droppers full of kava extract about an hour or so ago and i definitly feel some sort of buzz. its mainly a head buzz with some slight disorientation, but i have not finished the whole drink yet. Even with the FDA warnings, if anything harmful were to happen it would only be from long term exposure to Kava. The bottle says take 3 times daily as needed but not to take longer than a month at a time. The only real danger would come from mixing alcohol with it, but even then that would only strengthen the effects but worsen the likelihood for liver damage.

  5. Dillon,

Your question is one we’ve covered several times on our blog in a few different forms. One article you can look to is the “How Much Kava for Full Effects?” article, or even the “Kava: A Blog-Worthy Scam?” article, or, if you look to the right under our tag cloud…you can click on “kava effects” for another group of articles that cover this very topic. Hope this helps!

    Aloha no,
